Toyota Motor Corp  and Suzuki Motor Corp  will take small equity stakes in each other, the Japanese car makers said on Wednesday, as they seek to develop newer technologies  and meet sweeping changes upending the global auto industry.  Car makers - especially smaller ones like Suzuki - are struggling to meet the breakneck growth of an industry transformed by the rise of electric vehicles (EVs), ride-hailing and autonomous driving.  Toyota will pay around 96 billion yen (ÂŁ742 millContinue reading Toyota and Suzuki partner up on autonomy with capital alliance

Slew of Suzuki Concept Cars Set for Tokyo Debut, O-Kei?

Slew of Suzuki Concept Cars Set for Tokyo Debut, O-Kei?These are so cute. more
             [See image gallery at www.autoguide.com]
In addition to the e-Survivor, an electric off-roader with a traditional frame that draws inspiration from the brand’s Suzuki, Jimny and Vitara models, Suzuki has several other world debuts scheduled for this year’s Tokyo Motor Show.

Full details haven’t been released yet, but here’s what we know now about the Japanese automaker is revealing.
Kicking things off is the Spacia Concept, a tall miniwagon in the Japanese kei-car segment. It features a roomy interior afforded by its low floor and boxy exterior. For easy access, each side features a sliding door. According to the company it, “…offers a sense of excitement and fun.”

The Spacia Custom takes what’s offered by the Standard Spacia Concept and ups the style factor. Dressed up with a prominent grille as well as a black roof and mirror housings, it’s even more distinctive than its sibling.

Next up, the XBEE – that’s cross-bee – a small crossover-wagon that supposedly creates a whole new segment. Its spacious interior and overall packaging are borrowed from the wagon segment, while the off-road capability and tough styling are, naturally, inspired by SUVs.

The XBEE Outdoor Adventure model is designed for activities in nature, it’s aimed particularly at adults that love camping. It’s also supposedly more elegant and fun than the standard model.

But that’s not all! Suzuki will also reveal a third version of this segment-redefining concept. The XBEE Street Adventure is decidedly more at home in urban areas than the great outdoors, with styling that’s bolder and more fashionable, though we’re sure the changes here are, at most, minor.

Finally, the company is also set to unveil a new version of the Carry, a kei-segment utility truck. The Carry Open-Air Market Concept may be the coolest design study set to be shown by Suzuki in Tokyo this year, simply because it’s so functional. This little pickup features additional interior space and a more user-friendly design than before. It’s ideally suited as an open-air truck or even a mobile shop, but use-cases are nearly endless.

Come back Suzuki, we miss you.

Nearly five years ago, the Japanese brand announced its exit from the North American automotive market, and for many, Suzuki hasn’t been missed. But now the Japanese automaker has previewed this upcoming concept and we’re admittedly a little bummed that if it heads to production, we don’t get to play with it. Called the e-Survivor, Suzuki says it previews a future compact SUV “toward the next 100 years.”

The concept blends the automaker’s Jimny and Vitara models into a stylish off-roader boasting a four-wheel-drive electric powertrain. It’s built on a truck-style ladder frame, making it a true SUV and not a car-based crossover.

Other details on the concept are scarce at the moment, but expect more once it makes it debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show.

European auto shows are a lot of fun, mainly because we get to see all the cool (and sometimes not so cool) cars that North Americans don’t get.

Roaming the floors of the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, there were a ton of little European hatches, wagons, diesels, and cars of all types not offered on our continent. North Americans don’t get a lot of cars Europeans do for a lot of reasons: Stricter North American regulations and emissions standards, wildly different tastes and needs in cars, and the fact that some automakers just don’t operate here.

A few cars we spotted at the Geneva show that we can’t get here include a Ford Focus ST wagon, Subaru Levorg, Opel Adam, Alfa Romeo Mito and Giulietta, Suzuki Swift, and even a diesel Subaru Forester or Outback. A few automakers that don’t sell cars in North America include DS, Peugeot, Citroen, SEAT, Ssangyong, Suzuki, and Renault.
Flip through the gallery above to check out some Euro cars that North Americans can’t buy. Which ones would you like to bring to the U.S. and Canada? Let us know in the comments below!

Out with the old, in with the new. Japanese automaker Suzuki is getting a fresh president and chief operating officer.

Osamu Suzuki, who’s 85 years old, has appointed his son, Toshihiro Suzuki, 56 years old, to the COO position. Despite his advanced years the elder Suzuki will continue to serve as chairman and CEO.
In addition to this management change the company also has a new board of directors. Osamu Honda has been nominated chief technology officer and Yasuhito Harayama as vice chairman.

Going forward it appears as though Toshihiro is the heir apparent to family-controlled Suzuki. However, there is no news when this transition might take place.
Despite bowing out of the American automotive market back in late 2012 Suzuki is still a strong global player. It has joint ventures deals with other OEMs all over the world and is famous for its power products, things like motorcycles and ATVs.

Several cars from other brands, including the Chevy Cruze, Mazda AZ-Wagon and Carol are included in the recall because they are produced at Suzuki plants.
Suzuki’s Alto, WagonR and Swift models built between 1998 and 2009 are also being called back.
A total of 67 smoking ignition switches have been reported, but Suzuki is not aware of any accidents or injuries as a result of the problem. The issue has only been reported in Japan.

Suzuki may no longer sell cars in North America, but that won’t stop us from wondering about what might have been.

The Japanese automaker is still going strong in its home country and at the 2015 Tokyo Auto Salon it debuted a turbocharged version of its ultra-tiny Alto hatchback. Dubbed the Suzuki Alto RS Turbo, the hot hatch uses the standard 660-cc gasoline engine but pairs it up with a turbocharger for additional performance, though it’s unclear just how much. The naturally-aspirated Alto produces 48 or 51 hp depending on model so it’s likely the turbo variant gets closer to 100 hp.
2015 Tokyo Auto Salon Coverage
Making the Alto RS Turbo even hotter than the standard model is a set of 17-inch OZ wheels, Recaro seats on the inside and graphics throughout the body of the car. There’s also a bit of chrome treatment on the front end while the side mirrors and front spoiler has been painted red to match the wheels.
The Suzuki Alto is a kei car, which is a popular segment in Japan and while subcompacts are catching on in North America, it’s unlikely these city cars will ever make their way to the U.S.
