steering wheel shaking

  • Hi Folks,
I have a  2007 Jimny barely 2 weeks old with me, and I experienced the juddering and shaking of the steering wheel while at speed of around 50 to 60 kph when over some unevenness of road.
I hope anyone who has such similar experience would share with me as to how the problem was resolved. The car also tend to veer always towards the left side.
Beside the agent, any good Suzuki workshop around ? especially with so many Swift, and Vitara around.

  • hi bro,
actually , I have done wheel balancing already at Autobacc, and the chap said its ok , no issue. also paid $20, for the job. I wanted to do the wheel alignment that day, but he said machine broke down that day.
Next day, I drove the car along a normally even road and lo and behold, I had a fright when the steering wheel began juddering up and down . Could be a major defect I think.
Problem is there are few Jimny around as compared to  the other Suzuki models.
Maybe I will try Leong Seng and have wheel re balanced as per your good advice. many thanks.

  • Bro, check ya bearing, shaft, CV joint n bush... One of those starts to fail. If yours is Mod, check wheel alignment. I encounter similar vibration on my Jimny before...

  • Hi Bro,
Actually the Jimny is fitted with 205/65 R15 tyres, instead of  the standard  205/70 R15. Also , previous owner has fitted OZ racing rims, whether true OZ or not, I don't really know.
Do the rims also play a part in jiggling the steerring wheel a bit when running over uneven ground. Again, whether the rims have warped a bit or not, it is not determined yet.
Anyway, many thanks for the response.

  • the cheapest solution is to balance tyres , then, wheel alignment.
If these measures failures, as was my case, then, send it to Champion Motor, and have the kingpin repaired. that's it. in my case, it was solved just like that. Now, the car steering is beautiful and smooth, just like continental feel. you want better feel, then install a steering damper at Revo Perfomance.

  • Hi Suzuki Jimny friends
I have similar problem of steering wheel shaking when travelling at 80Kmh..... Above  that speed - the shaking stop. But when I slow down to 80Kmh, again the steering shake badly. I appreciate some advice please. Wheel balancing done several time and alignment also ok.

    Thanks so much

  • Hi guys,

Happen to pop in n see. Not sure if it's too late to reply. For those who still owns a Jimny n has similar issues, do go to ya mech n check ya wheel bearing or shaft alignment. For lifted Jimny, do also check ya drive shaft.
