Acceleration problem with my Swift 1.5 Auto

  • Good morning to all forum readers,

I have been encountering a problem regarding my swift for the past few months. When I tap on the accelerator gently, my car feels like it is going to stall. However my swift is auto, so I don't understand what is the problem. Went back to champion motors and they said my battery was not in a good condition, meaning going to be flat soon. However do you guys think the battery is the cause of my problem? I am really seeking help here, because I am unsure of what to do at this point of time.

Hope to seek opinions and answers.

    Thanks

  • i dont think its the battery.. how can the battery make the car stall during accelaration..

    if u ask me..

either air filter clog up.. throttle open up but not enough air going in..

or exhaust side.. cat converter failing.. cannot expel the gas fast enough..

or.. the car tune before.. too rich.. too much petrol upon stepping the throttle.. air-fuel ratio is off.. causing the car to stall..

recommend you go to a workshop who knows what they are doing to check... commercial sponsor on here.. fong kim or e-rev can help u out..

  • And you know what happen recently. Because I refuse to believe that the battery is flat, I also went to test my battery. My battery is in perfectly top notch condition. So first thing, champion motors is giving me false information and advice. And secondly, I really don't know what to do with the acceleration problem. Because even the official dealer cannot solve my problem, what should I do? I really need help badly. Sigh

  • bro.. that's nothing new.. a lot of authorized dealers tell the customer bullsh*t.. don't listen to them too much..

like i told u in the previous post.. cannot be battery problem..

go to a workshop.. i highlighted a couple above there.. ask them to check on the things that i told u.. and ask them to do their own checks also.. they will be able to solve your problem..

  • Thanks bro for your advice. Just to be on the safe side, any idea how much the checks and labour costs will add up to? Would like to be mentally prepared for the cost at least.

  • Bro, were you advised by a salesperson or the workshop at Champion? It would be disappointing to hear that the Champion workshop cannot solve your problem.

Maybe you can give the recommended workshop a call and get them to quote you for simple assessment/troubleshooting. I think that shouldn't cost much and you can get the answer on the phone (with regard to cost of doing an assessment/troubleshoot).

  • Hey Calvinus,

I was advised by the service advisor of champion motors that my battery was not good. He did not confirm what was not good about my battery and also he did not substantiate his claim with any evidence. I will not disclose his name here, but for those who go to champion motors. There are only  a few service advisors, one starting with H. I am very dissapointed as a matter of fact. But I don't know who I can go to feedback or raise this issue to higher authority. Maybe I will give them a ring and see how it goes. To be honest, might not get a suzuki in future. With such horrible service.

  • Bro, why don't you give the third party workshop a call to see if they will look at your car to assess the problem and what they will charge you for that. Maybe look only is free?

  • agreed.. at most will cost you 20-30 bucks to do diagnostics..

then they will need to quote you after that to fix the problem..

actually maybe dont even need to pay the diagnostics fee.. im sure they can check for you FOC.. if cannot fix the problem then dont need to pay

  • good luck man. this type of "come and go" problem is the hardest to identify and fix. best if you let them know the scenario when it happens.. morning/night, different petrol grades, etc..

    Any engine check light?
May not be battery but alternator.
There is a check you can do. Use a Voltmeter set to 20V reading. Put the car on idle. Read the terminals see of you are getting 14V. (remember not 12V) Anything below 14V means that your alternator is deading. Its not supplying enough juice to the car.

Can you share what you have done at DKC?

I will start another thread in the general forum on this, hope you can post there!
