engine misfiring symptoms
« on: June 03, 2012, 12:46:56 AM »
Hi fellow sx4 bros, do u experience any engine misfiring symptoms with your sx4?
Mine just recent having occasional misfiring during idling. Engine kinda "cough" once or twice n then rpm shot up above 1000 to compensate n then back to normal idling rpm. Thot was petrol contamination but after switching to two other brands n higher octane still having it. Resetted ECU still same. Is it due to tank fuel pump about to fail? :-\
Any advice?

seems like u noe quite a bit about cars.. good.. the first 2 things to check would be ECU and petrol.. since you have tried both.. here's a few more options for u to look into..

1) fuel pump/fuel filter.... fuel filter might be a bit clogged.. or fuel pump dying soon.. cost about ~1-200 to fix

2) spark plugs/ignition coils.. plugs might be foul already.. or ignition coil/wire might be dying soon.....

either one of these should fix the problem....

good luck bro.. hope to see u at a meetup soon
awaiting 2012 swift sport.. chio!!

Thx bobby. I hv changed to iridium plugs but problem persists. Also thot filter choked n called up CM for filter quote. Was told filter assembled with fuel pump, hv to change whole unit n cost abt $700 :o But they can do a diagnose test b4 confirming really pump problem. Maybe can ask them check รจ coils.
Thx 4 advice. Hope to c u at meetup too.

Hi fellow sx4 bros, juz to share, in case your rides r experiencing same symptoms as what i hv mentioned, it is due to ignition coils failure. CM checked mine using OBD n found recent history of misfiring.
Cost to replace: abt $500. :'(
The feeling after repair: Priceless. ;D

suzuki ignition coil prone to spoiling.. a few of my friends have changed before too.. heard from a mechanic its due to the grade of petrol that we pump... using ron 92.. coil have to "spark harder" to combust the petrol.. thus more wear and tear.. dun know how true it is.. i thought in this case the spark plug should spoil first?
$$ come to me

@swift21: according to our sx4 factory booklet, it can drink ron90. i hv bn pumping between ron92 & 95 for these 4.5 yrs no problem until just recently coils failed. Now i stick to ron95 to monitor for abnormaly. :-\
Coils failures can happen to any car. My friend's 6yrs old camry hv oredi changed 2 times of coils. :o
