Looking to impove the power of my car
« on: July 27, 2013, 02:45:40 PM »
Hi all,

I just changed my ride from Mit lancer CS3 to SX4. I realize that the power of the car is not there.
Can anyone help me with ways to improve the power of the car legally? Thank you.

That's all for cs3? Easily can out do your cs3. If project s can mod quad throttle into sx4(m16a engine).  Plus legal exhaust change, project s side see if there's any ecu thats suitable for sx4 Plus tuning, Okada plasma direct coils. The rest like lightened flywheel, final drive, lighten pump pulley all this not confirmed if it's available for sx4. Just my 2 cents. As I am not driving sx4. But cs3 power is Just too limited. As I see that You did not change throttle body for your cs3. There fore there's definitely ways to outdo your cs3. cheers

Easily out do CS3? Maybe compare Apple to Apple, that will be realistic and ideal.  SX4 Power to Ratio with CS3, is quite a lapse.

Hi Ray, SX4 maybe a M16A engine, but it consists of a number of different items, from the M16A used in Swift Sport. Example: SX4 is a Lower CR, Cam degree, ignition timing, a detuned BHP and torque although it's M16A VVTed engine, it's AT gearbox is different as well. Personally saw and experienced it.

For NA, torque is the main key element and may be your concern. As the items Jack Jack mentioned, not sure if u are really, ready to throw a bomb of money (which more than $10k over to mod up a SX4), and of cos, there maybe improvement, but not sure if it's up to that expectation.

I am not sure which batch of SX4 you brought, the previous batch (2007-12) is different from current 2013 version.
Maybe you may share more on what you like to improve, a nippy response of acceleration? or higher end of power at that high rev. Then maybe, can share more views and ideas with you.

But frankly speaking. You have to know your budget before any mods come into place. Like what chaselim said. We ain't sure if You are ready to throw in 10k+ for mods. =)

SX4 is a nice car and it has not problem maintain at 160km/h during the road trip. The missing factor, as you said, the response.

As most of your trip may be in Malaysia, I would not recommend any change to your Final drive (even if there's one available).

As we know, Open Pod Intake is a killer to AT car, so would be best to have a aftermarket Drop in Filter. My suggestion, get the K&N. it's a best Air flow filter which will helps u. And of cos, don't forget to get the CAI fix up.

Take a look at the tires. I can't recall what rim size Sx4 is fitted. Ideally, having a 15 Inch, 195/50/15 would be great for ur car. And recommended Air pressure to be 35PSi (don't bother about the recommended which said at the side of your door). Get the ultra high performance tires, they are usually lighter than those stock comfort tires.

Next, consider increasing the CR (compressor Ratio). Increase from current 9:1, to 11:1. Install a unchip to tune the open loop and advance the ignition timing. Having a AFR of 14.8 to 15.7 would be ideal.

Strongly would auggest to Install a Pivot 3 drive. This device would definately assist in speed up the throttle response which SX4 is weak in.

Traditional and standard way, skim the cylinder head la bro.... Hehehe.

But after doing, wil need to do a few more items to prevent engine knocking.
